About Dysphagia
Dysphagia effects 3% of the general population, affecting 10% of adults older than 65 years and 50% of the institutionalized elderly population. Other signs of dysphagia include choking and couching while eating and drinking, or bringing food back up, sometimes through the nose, while some can’t swallow at all. Untreated dysphagia can lead to malnutrition, aspiration, and pneumonia.
