DYSPHAGIA
Let's get started

Overview
of DYSPHAGIA

Experiencing difficulties or discomfort with swallowing? This may be sign of dysphagia, an impairment with one's swallow function causing food and/or liquids to enter the open airway due to difficulties with oropharyngeal functioning or may be related to esophageal dysfunction which could place one at risk for pneumonia or other pulmonary issues.

About Dysphagia

Dysphagia effects 3% of the general population, affecting 10% of adults older than 65 years and 50% of the institutionalized elderly population. Other signs of dysphagia include choking and couching while eating and drinking, or bringing food back up, sometimes through the nose, while some can’t swallow at all. Untreated dysphagia can lead to malnutrition, aspiration, and pneumonia.
